Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund Announces 2nd Annual “Home For The Holidays” Benefit Concert

Star-Studded Concert to Raise Funds and Awareness for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Youth Homelessness

December 8th at New York’s Beacon Theatre

October 23, 2012 [NEW YORK] – Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Fund today announced the 2nd annual “Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays” benefit concert on Saturday, December 8th at New York City’s historic Beacon Theatre to help raise awareness about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth homelessness and funds for the organization’s Forty to None Project.

Cyndi Lauper will be joined on stage this year by Sarah McLachlan, Adam Lambert, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, Roberta Flack, St. Vincent, Alexis Krauss of Sleigh Bells, Hunter Valentine, Andy Cohen, Rita Coolidge, Emily West, Terri Nunn, host Carson Kressley and a special sneak preview performance by the cast of the upcoming Broadway musical “Kinky Boots.” Additional guests will be announced soon. Tickets will be available to the general public at Ticketmaster.com starting on Friday, October 26th at 11am.

“At last year’s sold out concert we got a bunch of great folks together, had a big party with some great music and raised much-needed funds to help get the word out about these young people who are struggling,” remarked Lauper, co-founder of the True Colors Fund. “So, this year we’re going to do it even bigger!”

In America, up to 1.6 million youth are homeless each year and up to 40% of them identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Yet, only up 5% of the general youth population does the same. The disproportionate rate these young people experience homelessness is alarming and the primary reason they are homeless is because of family rejection. These kids are being thrown out of their homes by their families or running away out of fear of rejection or to escape abuse.

Cyndi and her True Colors Fund stepped up to address this problem this past summer, and with funds raised from last year’s concert, launched the Forty to None Project, the first national organization to solely focus on making sure that no young person is homeless because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Forty to None Project stems from a year-long assessment by the True Colors Fund in 2011 examining the current state of affairs for homeless gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth around the country. Through education, advocacy, empowerment, capacity building and inclusion, the Forty to None Project is working to bring an end to this epidemic. In just its first three months of existence, the project has gotten off to a successful start, including the launch of an extensive and innovative website (www.fortytonone.org), the release of its first PSA highlighting the scope of the epidemic entitled America’s Next Generation, the release of a groundbreaking report about the services available to gay and transgender homeless youth entitled Serving Our Youth, and the first annual Camp True Colors, a summer camp for gay and transgender youth living in out of home care in NYC.

“Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays” is proud to have the support of Platinum Sponsor Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Gold Sponsors Barclays Wealth and WE tv, and Silver Sponsors Kinky Boots and Van Gogh Vodka. Additional support is provided by the Human Rights Campaign.
