About the Organization
Established in 1991, HEAT is the only comprehensive care program of its kind in Brooklyn that provides age and developmentally appropriate, culturally competant care for heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexuals, and transgender youth who are living with or at very high-risk for HIV/AIDS. Our program is in a youth-friendly, discrete and easily accessible venue. The HEAT Program operates a “one-stop” full service clinic, offering a full range of medical, mental health and supportive services that are tailored to meet the special health care needs of young people. A multi-disciplinary team provides ongoing medical care to infected youth and assessments for those at risk. Staff also work with a variety of community-based programs to provide education, support and referral opportunities for youth at risk for HIV infection. The program takes referrals from all five boroughs and offers services to teens regardless of ability to pay.
