Provider Category: Supportive Services
CENTER LANE, a program of Westchester Jewisch Community Services, is Westchester’s only community center for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) adolescents. Designed to reduce the isolation that many of these young people feel, the center provides an opportunity for socialization, enhanced self-esteem and personal growth in a safe place where they can be themselves without the fear of harassment.
Services include: weekly support groups, creative and educational workshops, recreational and social events, social skill building activities, advocacy and short-term individual, family and group counseling. The center also offers opportunities for young people to do community service and a monthly networking meeting for student members of local high school Gay/Straight Alliance clubs.
CENTER LANE staff and youth volunteers provide ongoing training in high schools and social service agencies on bullying/bias harassment and other important issues that face lesbian and gay youth.
While most of the activities take place at in Yonkers, which also focuses on LGBTQ youth of color, CENTER LANE also offers satellite services at The LOFT LGBT Center in White Plains.
Center Lane provides workshops and presentations in schools and agencies. Tailored to the age and background of the audience, the training aims to deepen understanding, reduce bullying, combat misinformation and promote social justice for all.
